Celebration of our Nation
June 30, 2018 – Downtown Wellston
9:00 am – 5K Run/Walk. Registration begins at 8:00am with the race beginning at 9. Start and finish will be at the Depot and is a flat out & back course. All finishers receive a medal, with a cash prize for the overall male and female runners. Pre-registration is $20, Race day registration is $25. Register now at Tri-State Racer. 8:00 am – The Home Center Plus will be hosting and sponsoring an outdoor flea market and trader days adjacent to the Historic Downtown District on West Broadway.
12:00 pm – Dusk – Food vendors will be set up near the Depot. (See complete list here)
1:00 pm – Dusk – There will be a vendor fair set up on the streets near the depot. In addition to our wonderful local vendors, there will be a Chinese Auction staffed by the Wellston High School National Honor Society. (See Complete List Here)
1:00 – 3:00 pm – McWilliams Funeral Home will be sponsoring a Car Show, coordinated by the Jackson County Gear Grinders at the old Pants Factory Lot across from the Depot on 2nd Street.
1:00 pm – Starting at 1pm there will be a variety of events for kids around the Depot. Also, Jenkins Care Community will sponsor a caricature artist from 2-5pm, and Jackson County SPARC will host spin art starting at 2pm.
3:00 pm – There will be a Pet Show at the gazebo in Pride Park. All pets are welcome, but please make sure they are on leashes or otherwise contained. Pet show is sponsored by Xtreme Cheernastics. NO PETS WILL BE REGISTERED AFTER THE START OF THE SHOW! Awards will be given in the following categories:
- Best Dressed
- Best Trick
- Best Veteran (Pets 8 years of age & Older)
- Most Unique
- Best Kid/Pet Duo (Kids 8 & younger. Must handle their own pet.)
3:00 pm – The annual Apple Pie Contest is sponsored by Michael’s Ice Cream, and hosted by Flowerland on E. First Street. Please have your homemade creations to Flowerland no later than 2 pm so it can be prepared for judging.
6:30 pm – Celebration of our Nation Parade. The parade will begin at the old high school lot on S. Pennsylvania Ave, turn left onto Broadway, then left onto Railroad Ave., ending at the Pants Factory Lot. ( Parade Entry Form )
Immediately following the parade, there will be Music in the Park, thanks in part to the Wellston OHillCo Society. The concert will feature a community choir let by Dorothy Riepenhoff, and local artist Bart Wiseman. There will not be a break in the action from the parade until the Fireworks, so come out and enjoy all that Wellston has to offer.
Dusk – FIREWORKS! Get comfortable and enjoy the breathtaking fireworks display by Tripwire Pyrotechnics out of Wheeling, WV, lead by Wellston Native Garrett Pugh.
